Frequently Asked Questions

My child is interested in lacrosse but wants to learn more about the sport before registering to play, what should we do?

Our club offers a free Try Lacrosse event for boys and girls K-8th grade. We provide sticks and go over the basics of the game and teach passing and catching. In addition to learning the fundamentals, the players will play fun games during the 2 hour intro to lacrosse event. Please see http://www.borolax.org/pages/trylax for more information.

When is the youth lacrosse season?

Jan- Feb: indoor practices 1 day per week, divided by age groups

Mid January: Player evaluations during a normally scheduled indoor team practice*

                    * Junior High boy's evaluations are held mid November and indoor practices are divided by team placement

March-May: Outdoor practices and games. First Games will be last weekend in Feb/ first weekend in March for 3-8th grade. K2 games begin 3-4 weeks later. Season ends the 3rd weekend in May.

When is registration?

Oct 1 – Nov 30

How do I register to play Springboro Lacrosse?

-Create a League Apps account at www.borolax.org.

-Click the “Registration” tab and select the appropriate age group for your player.

-If you already have a League Apps account you can use that login, but must login through the www.borolax.org homepage.

Can I register late?

While we try to accommodate late registrations, please be aware that sizing and ordering uniforms determines the Nov 30th registration deadline. If a player registers late IT IS VERY LIKELY your uniform will arrive late and the player will be unable to play without a proper team uniform.

Registering after player evaluations also makes team placement more difficult. Our goal is to form teams based on skill and competition level to achieve success and growth during the season.

How do I add another email address/ add another parent to my League Apps account?

-Log into your League Apps account on the borolax website.

-Click “My Account” in the top right corner

-In the My Dashboard section, update family contact info, add a parent, or invite a parent

Does the Springboro Lacrosse Club provide equipment?

We do not provide equipment. A full list of required equipment is listed at https://www.usalacrosse.com/equipment .

We do provide goalie gear (stick, throat guard, chest protector, goalie pants, and shin guards). We also have a few long poles to lend to defensive players for 5/6th grade when they are using the shortened (cut-down) long sticks. Full length long sticks are used in boys Junior High.

What is included with my registration fee?

-Winter Cubs Clinics (fundamental skill clinics in early December with High School coaches and players and youth coaching staff)

-Winter indoor practice sessions (once per week, usually 7 sessions, Jan - Feb)

-Spring practices (2-3 practices per week, varies by coach and age level, March - May)

-1 game per week for K-6th grade

-2 games per week for 7/8th grade

-2 local tournaments*

*The Club will do our best to put our teams in local tournaments, but cannot guarantee specific dates or tournaments due to bracket availability, weather, and host cancellations.

*JH Boys A team participates in the (Columbus) Middle School State tournament; subject to availability and weather.

Why does the registration cost vary by age group?

Registration costs are based on the length of game season and referee cost per game. K2 plays fewer games, have fewer refs per game, and the ref fee is lower than the older grades; therefore the cost is lower. JH refs are paid more than 3-6th refs and JH plays 2 times per week on average; therefor their fees are higher.

What is not included with my registration fee? Do I have to buy my own uniform?

Uniforms, practice pinnies, and helmet decals are not included in the registration fee and can be purchased separately from the Club store on our website. We use a local vender for uniforms and they typically arrive a couple weeks before the first game of the season. Team helmet decals are optional.

Players K-6th only need to purchase a uniform if:

  • they are new to Springboro Lacrosse or
  • their uniform from the previous season no longer fits.

We use a universal uniform so players can continue to use the same jersey and shorts year after year as long as they fit.

JH boys must buy a new uniform if:

  • they are new to JH Springboro Lacrosse or
  • their JH uniform from the previous season no longer fits

How do I size a uniform?

Jerseys: order one size larger than your player’s typical shirt size to accommodate shoulder pads.

Shorts: order your player’s normal short size.

Why does JH boys lacrosse require two jerseys?

The Ohio Middle School Lacrosse Association stipulates that uniforms must have sleeves and teams must provide a light/ white and dark jersey. JH jerseys are not reversible and therefore a two-jersey set is required.

Where are practices and home games?

Practice: Hazel Wood Park in Springboro

Games: Wade Field, behind the 6th Grade Intermediate School in Springboro. K2 may play at Hazel Wood Park. 3-8th grade games are also occasionally held on the Hazel Wood Park turf due to scheduling conflicts at Wade Field.

Are there away games?

Yes. Our club is a member of the Southern Ohio Chapter of US Lacrosse and games are scheduled with a central scheduler. Away games can be up to 60 minutes away (Indian Hill, Mariemont, Sycamore, Mason, Lakota) but are also with local competition (Centerville, Lebanon, Bellbrook). We tend to have more home games than away games in K-6th grade.

When will the regular season game schedule be released?

Games are scheduled by a central scheduler that coordinates over 40 programs in the Dayton and Cincinnati region. Schedules usually are released mid-February. K2 schedules may be released late February, as their games do not begin until late March.
